  The work is hard, hot and rewarding: this is your chance to learn by experience. Good leaders must first be good followers. Interns are paid $7-$9/hour with overtime after 40 hours. Limited on-site housing is provided at McIntern, a co-ed house with separate lockable rooms and a shared living room and kitchen. If necessary, a $100 housing allowance is available to help with the cost of alternate local housing arrangements. We currently accept 6 interns into our Summer Program. Starting and ending dates are flexible.

  In addition to valuable experience, interns learn about all aspects of the green industry through a series of weekly in-house seminars, led by the McCorkle Nurseries horticulture staff. Each interns is required to keep a daily log of all activities. The Intern Coordinator works with each intern and his or her school to ensure all possible college credit is received.

  McCorkle Nurseries, Inc. is a container nursery located on 720 acres in Dearing, Georgia. We grow a broad range of ornamental plants including perennials, shrubs, vines, and trees. Our product mix is varied, innovative and continually updated. We provide an excellent opportunity for students with horticulture and related majors to supplement their college training with practical experience. Interns are provided an opportunity to gain experience in several different departments, with an emphasis on production.

Interns will work in the following areas:

A state of the art Integrated Plant Health program.
Propagation of liners, including direct sticking in containers ranging from 1 to 7 gallons. McCorkle Nurseries, Inc. sticks over 6,000,000 cuttings annually.
Perennial production: in a vented-roof gutter-connect greenhouse and a retractable roof greenhouse; pot-in-pot tree production; potting; shipping; loading; receiving; much more.
Outside sales, with hands-on experience in customer education, plant care, taking orders, promotions, delivery, customer service and building lasting relationships with trust.
Business management, including finance, accounting, human resources, information systems, inventory control, inside sales, re-wholesale and more.

There are many attractions and activities within a short drive from Dearing: it’s just 12 miles to Thomson, Georgia (shopping & restaurants), 30 miles from Strom Thurmond Lake, 35 miles east of Augusta, Georgia and 125 miles west of Atlanta.
